Back in September, I took part in the second paint Garstang plein air painting competition and I am very happy to report that I achieved 2nd place for the 2nd year in a row!

This year I painted the view of the canal behind Owd’ Tithe Barn on the outskirts of Garstang. I used oil paints to create my picture and was primarily focused on capturing the reflections of the boats in the water.

My painting “Reflections” is currently on display at the Garstang Arts Centre along with the other fabulous competition winners. 1st place went to another fantastic canal painting by the talented Katya Carrington, and third place went to a beautiful pen drawing of the town centre by Alison Dawson. All the artworks from so many talented artists who took part in the competition are on display and for sale at Garstang Arts Centre, please pop in to take a look if you are in the area.

I was also very surprised to see myself on the front of Garstang’s local newspaper on the day of the paint Garstang competition, along with last year’s fabulous winner Simon Blackley, who is going to be taking part in Landscape Artist of the Year.

Currently I have an exhibition of my illustrations from the Lancashire Stories project up at Clitheroe Castle Museum.

This exhibition will be up until the end of November 2023 so please pop in and take a look if you are in the Ribble Valley area. Copies of the Lancashire Stories Anthology are available for free from The Castle and from Libraries in Lancashire, Blackburn and Blackpool while stocks last.

On Sunday I had a great time as an artist in residence for the day at Clitheroe Castle, with my friend and brilliant artist Diane Burrow, during the “Art Walk Clitheroe.”

“The Art Walk Clitheroe” is a one-day event where art enthusiasts can visit the town’s art galleries, museums and cultural hot spots, meet local artists plus get the chance to view and purchase original artwork.

I recently had some work on display with the Blackburn Artists Society exhibition at Garstang Arts Centre and currently have three paintings exhibited with the society at Queen Street Mill in Burnely, the “Tales of Lancashire” exhibition, focussing on paintings depicting Mills, Mill Towns and local History, will run until the beginning of November 2023 and is well worth a visit.
