Exploring Color with Watercolor Pencils in Life Drawing

During a recent life drawing session I took the opportunity to explore colour in the form of water colour pencils. I played with layering drawings on top of each other in different colours, drawing in one colour tone and using a limited palette of just two colours. I enjoyed this process of experimentation moving away from drawing in graphite pencil alone and also using a much smaller surface to draw on as I used an A4 sketchbook as opposed to my usual A2 sized drawing paper which was a fun challenge for me.

This session was also challenging as I had never had the opportunity to draw this model before. It took me a while to get used to the proportions of the figure – it required slowing down my process and ensuring I really looked at the figure whilst drawing.
