This week I focused on my word of the year RECEIVE by honing in on small moments of joy. This included moments of joy I’d created for myself as well as moments that occurred naturally in my environment.
One of those sparks of joy that I received this week was the simple act of buying myself some flowers.
I intentionally chose flowers that I was drawn to because of their colour and they way they made me feel.
This week I have found myself drawn to the colour purple, so I chose these lovely lilac tulips. I placed them in this turquoise vase and put them on my coffee table. I sat with a cup of coffee and relished the little pocket of joy I’d created for myself.
As I sat there I had an intense impulse to draw the flowers. Instead of pushing it away I received this flash of inspiration and went and grabbed my coloured pencils.
I spent a happy hour getting into the flow state and created the picture below in my sketchbook.

I may go back to this picture in the future and turn it into a painting. But for now, it’s been meaningful to capture this little pocket of joy I’d created for myself. Drawing these flowers was a ritual that allowed me to remember the importance of being present. Of noticing the beauty of the world around me. And reminding me of how important it is to receive joy when it’s given to you.
Hope you manage to find some pockets of joy in your week!
