Curiosity Box: Victorian inspired curious and oddities

This week on Mushroom on Designs I have been inspired by Victorian Curiosities and oddities! The original idea came to me after watching some reviews of the Antiquarian sticker book on You Tube:

Some of the complaints about this book have been that some of the stickers are a bit, well, weird. If you are used to junk journaling and paper crafting you will know that usually the themes within these crafts tend to be things like flowers or botanical images, pretty Victorian ladies or vintage sewing ephemera.

And so, you find that its not often you call for a wombat say, or a giant squid.

But, this is actually one of the things that drew me to this book, and the idea to challenge myself to use some of these more odd and peculiar images arose.

Hence I came up with the idea of making an altered book with the theme Victorian Oddities and curiosities, and decided I’d like to make a Curiosity box!

Cabinets of curiosities were collections of strange and notable objects, usually with natural history, geological, religious or occult leanings. These were used as entertainment and decoration, but also to show your rank in society- the more unusual and rare the objects, the more of a show off you could be!

On Friday 21st May at 2pm You can see a video on You tube of how I created my curiosity box in my altered book, and you can make one too! This will be the first in a series of videos in the making of my book of curiosities.
