Recently I have had fun experimenting with combining negative space, mixed media and semi-abstract botanicals.
I created these botanical pieces by firstly starting with a collaged base. I glued the collage elements in place with matte medium. I then added bright layers of acrylic paints and marks using paint markers, pencils and various other mark making materials.
Once the base layer was dry I went on to create my semi- abstract botanicals using negative space painting techniques. This is where you paint the space around the object instead of the object itself. I used acrylic paint for this process building up the paint in layers.
I then went in afterwards with the gold paint and white paint to add the circles and the more detailed marks.
I really enjoyed combining these techniques together and having a good play! I am also really enjoying the freedom of creating using semi- abstract or expressive objects.
