A Collaborative Magical Mushroom Adventure!

One of the things I have really enjoyed this year is creating collaborative art works. During a recent Thursday Art Club session we had a fantastic time creating these fabulously fungal collaborative drawings! The idea for the session came from a video I had seen on Instagram a while ago by Jenny Muncaster which you can watch HERE.

We lined the walls of Pendleton community centre with lining paper and let loose with charcoal and other drawing mediums fastened to the end of garden canes. The garden canes enabled the artists to loosen up their drawings by creating some distance between the artist and the paper. This was a technique used by the artist Matisse.

In the afternoon we changed tack and that’s where the real fun and magic happened! We all selected a coloured drawing material and took up a place at the wall. A timer was set for 2 minutes and each artist had to draw mushrooms for that brief period. When the timer went off each artist moved along to the next artist’s drawing and then had 2 minutes to continue that drawing- this continued until every artist was back at their original spot and everyone had contributed to each of the drawings.

The results were so colourful and fun!

We had such a great time that we have already started thinking about giving it another go in 2026 with a different theme- under the sea perhaps?

That’s a wrap for 2025! I hope you have had a creative and art filled year!

Have a fabulous Christmas and/ or restorative end to December no matter what you celebrate and see you in 2026 for more creative adventures!
