Mini collage a day sketchbook

Mini sketchbook

For Christmas a lovely friend gave me this tiny, beautiful handmade sketchbook from a maker called “Dusted Sunshine sketchbooks”. The book measures approximately 2” by 3” . It took me a while to decide what I wanted to use my sketchbook for, but in the end I chose to put it to use for a daily creative ritual.

Hand bound tiny sketchbook

The aim is to create a tiny collage daily until the sketchbook is filled. The practice is a way of letting go of control and learning to play- and to make art intuitively rather than with a finished product in mind.

Here are the first 7 days of my tiny sketchbook collages:

Day one
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5
Day 6
Day 7

Some of the collages start with a colour theme, others seem to begin from a symbol or an image. It’s been a great exercise so far in turning up to my creative practice everyday, creating for the act of creating itself not for outcome and as a way to see what images, colours, symbols and ideas I am intuitively drawn to. It’s also been a brilliant way to use up tiny interesting scraps of paper and ephemera.

Stay tuned for more photos from this project as the month develops!
