“Here we go a Maying” oil painting by Rachel Crawshaw

“Here we go a Maying” oil on linen board, May 2026, Rachel Crawshaw

In this weeks TAC (Thursday Art Club) our theme was to create a work based on the month of May. For this theme I went out “a Maying” and collected some May blossom/ Hawthorn to create a still life.

I went for a simple display of a single jug with the Hawthorn flowers and a tablecloth.

I am not confident using oil paints so this was a good practice to get back in to the techniques and processes involved in creating a wet on wet oil painting.

I ended up scrapping my first attempt as I was unhappy with the proportions of the jug, but in the end I liked the composition and was sufficiently pleased with the finished painting.
