My latest projects at RRandJ.com have all been based around junk journals and heirloom journals. Using an array of mixed media techniques including sewing, stamping, book binding, paper crafts, bead work and applique I create one of a kind journals from found materials making each journal unique.
Here are some images of my most recent journal I have created.
This is my most recent journal, it is a miniature or handbag sized journal that is easy to take away with you on your adventures. It measures 10cm x 16 cm and has a 2cm spine. The signatures are hand sewn into the cover using red acid free cotton.
The cover is made from mounted card stock that is machine stitched for extra sturdiness. The Journal is fastened via a pink ribbon through hole punched holes. The journal consists of 66 pages front and back and includes many embellishments including bead dangles, embellished paper clip charms, pockets and envelopes.
The theme of the journal is based on the colours pink, orange, red and purple and contains lots of bumble bee, floral and natural imagery like butterflies and dragonflies.
The pages inside the journal are made from a mixture of tea stained lined and unlined papers, gesso covered found papers, tea stained envelopes and paper bags, providing lots of different textures for writing, drawing or collage.
The journal is full to the brim with stamped up pages, hidden pockets, tags, journal cards, envelopes, miniature note books, paper clips and ephemera.
In this journal you will find embellished and altered tea bags that make up pockets and envelopes, each one is individually hand painted and decorated.
This journal provides plenty of space for writing, attaching photographs, drawing or painting and hiding bits of ephemera and keep-sakes. It would make a beautiful general journal, a great travelling notebook or a lovely gratitude journal.
