In July at one of the Thursday Art Club meetings we explored the theme of “narrative”. This essentially means creating an art piece that tells a story. I really enjoyed a previous session where I had created an artwork from combining fragments from other artists sketches to create a new piece with a different meaning.
I decided to take a similar approach by creating a collage first from a mix of personal photographs and found images to create a new image and a narrative.

I then used my collage as the inspiration for my painting “The Fools Journey”. The narrative in this work is open to interpretation by the viewer- what story do you think this piece is telling?
Another aspect I have enjoyed in this process is including photographs and images that have meaning to me as the artist. I have enjoyed using family photographs as inspiration as it gives the art work a personal resonance.
I have also enjoyed using symbolic and surreal elements in my work and this is something I’d like to explore further in the future.
